Waarom de menopauze ineens overal is, en hoe vrouwen dit vroeger deden

Menopause suddenly seems to be everywhere. On social media, in podcasts, in conversations at the kitchen table, and even at work. It is being discussed more openly than ever before. And that raises a logical question for many women:

Why is this such a big topic? And how did women actually do this in the past?

In this article, I take you through what has truly changed, what many women are struggling with today, and what is needed not only to get through this phase alone, but to emerge stronger.

Has menopause itself changed?

No. The female body has not suddenly started functioning differently. The biological processes surrounding menopause are still exactly as they always were.

What has changed drastically, however, is the world around it.

The world we live in today

Women now live fundamentally differently than in the past. We are dealing with:

  • more stimuli and information

  • more responsibilities in both work and private life

  • more pressure to perform everywhere

  • different diet and a different daily routine

  • fewer rest and recovery moments

Work, family, social expectations, and caring for others constantly intertwine. And this affects precisely the areas that are already under pressure during menopause: your energy, your recovery capacity, and your mental balance.

The result? Many women experience this phase more intensely than their mothers or grandmothers did. Not because they are less strong, but because they live in a world that has simply become more demanding.

The influence of social media on the conversation about menopause

Whereas menopause was barely visible in the past, it is now a topic that is actively shared. Women talk about it in podcasts, on Instagram, and in private communities. There is more openness, more recognition, and more room for conversation.

That is valuable. Very valuable, even.

But at the same time, it also means that you are constantly exposed to dozens of different angles, claims, and solutions. From hormone resets to miracle diets, and from supplement protocols to strict training schedules.

And that can be confusing. Because what is really right? And above all: what suits you and your body at this stage?

How did women do this in the past?

No better. They did it quietly.

Without knowledge. Without guidance. Without truly understanding what was happening in their bodies.

Many women simply thought: "This is just part of it." And they carried on. Often at the expense of their energy, their well-being, and sometimes their self-confidence too. Menopause was dismissed, downplayed, or seen as something you simply had to accept.

My own mother is a painful example of what can happen when women carry this phase completely alone, without knowledge of how great the impact of hormonal changes can be on body and mind.

That is exactly why I am doing this work today.

Then versus now: what has really changed?

Earlier:

  • little information about the menopause

  • hardly any guidance or recognition

  • much silent acceptance

Now:

  • much more openness and dialogue

  • significantly more knowledge available

  • more opportunities to take control

But also: the challenge of determining what truly suits you amidst all the noise. Because more information does not automatically mean more clarity.

What many women struggle with today

Many women I speak to feel very clearly that something is changing. They notice:

  • that their bodies react differently than before

  • that their energy is no longer a given

  • that their mental resilience is under pressure

  • that they recognize themselves less in how they feel

But they don't really know where to start. And they get lost in the abundance of advice. They try one thing after another, without it really making a difference.

What is actually needed in this phase

The answer does not lie in going back to how things used to be. Nor does it lie in trying to solve everything at once or in yet another reset promise.

What you really need at this stage is this:

Understanding. Understanding what is happening in your body and why old strategies no longer work.

Insight. Gaining insight into your own patterns, habits, and what drains you or, conversely, nourishes you.

Direction. Learning which choices work for you, in your life, in your body, in this phase.

Not as a quick fix, but as a sustainable foundation.

Why Victorious Women takes a different view of menopause

At Victorious Women, I work from a foundation of education, scientifically grounded knowledge, and guidance that looks beyond just the physical. I believe that lasting change occurs when body, behavior, and mindset are addressed together.

With attention to:

  • body and brain

  • behavior and lifestyle

  • who you are in this phase of your life

Not to bring you back to who you used to be. But to guide you to who you can become now. Stronger, clearer, and more in control than ever before.

Finally: menopause is not new, but the way we deal with it is.

The transition itself is timeless. But the time in which we live, the conversation we are having, and the knowledge that is available give you something that previous generations did not have:

The chance to do things differently. More consciously. More firmly. With more control.
