Menopausal Hormone Therapy During Menopause: What Every Woman Needs to Know Before Making a Decision

Chances are you have heard something about MHT more and more often lately.

Maybe on social media.

Maybe from a friend.

Maybe in a podcast.

Or perhaps by now you are so tired of the hot flashes, bad nights, and mood swings that you have started looking for solutions yourself.

And then you quickly arrive at MHT, Menopausal Hormone Therapy.

To some, it sounds like a miracle cure.

To the other person as something you should especially stay far away from.

But as is so often the case, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

And that is exactly what this blog is about.

Not to convince you.

Not to scare you about anything.

But to help you make an informed choice.

Why are so many women suddenly talking about MHT?

Because more and more women are discovering that they have been walking around for years with symptoms they did not know were related to menopause.

Consider:

  • hot flashes

  • night sweats

  • fatigue

  • sleeping poorly

  • brain fog

  • mood swings

  • joint complaints

  • reduced libido

  • weight gain around the belly

Where women used to often be told: "It's part of it."

Nowadays, possibilities to reduce symptoms are being looked at more frequently. MHT is one of them.

What exactly is MHT?

MHT stands for Menopausal Hormone Therapy.

During menopause, the hormones estrogen and progesterone decrease.

MHT partially replenishes these hormones, which can reduce certain symptoms.

The goal of MHT is not to make you 25 again.

The goal is to reduce symptoms caused by hormonal changes.

What MHT can do

Many women experience:

✓ fewer hot flashes

✓ less night sweats

✓ better sleep

✓ less brain fog

✓ more stable mood

✓ more energy

✓ less vaginal dryness

✓ protection of bone mass

For some women, this can mean a huge improvement in their quality of life.

And we can absolutely acknowledge that.

What MHT does not do

Confusion often arises here.

MHT is not a miracle cure.

It does not resolve automatically:

❌ chronic stress

❌ an unhealthy diet

❌ sleep deprivation due to lifestyle

❌ lack of exercise

overload

❌ unprocessed emotions

❌ years of exhaustion

❌ unhealthy habits

Sometimes women expect hormones to solve everything.

When that does not happen, disappointment arises.

Hormones can provide support.

But they do not replace a healthy lifestyle.

Beware of social media "experts"

This is perhaps the most important part of this blog.

There is a lot of talk about hormones on social media.

Some information is valuable. But an awful lot of nonsense is also being shared.

From women who have declared themselves experts.

From influencers who sell supplements.

From people who claim that every woman needs hormones.

Or precisely that no woman should start doing it.

The truth is that no one on Instagram knows your medical history.

Nobody there knows your symptoms.

No one knows your risks.

No one knows your family history.

Therefore, it is dangerous to make medical decisions based on a 30-second reel.

Never buy hormones yourself via the internet.

More and more women are ordering hormones themselves online.

That might seem easy.

But it is not without risk.

Hormones are not dietary supplements.

They are powerful substances that affect virtually every system in your body.

The right choice depends on, among other things:

  • your age

  • your complaints

  • your health

  • your medical history

  • your family history

  • the form of hormone therapy

Therefore, this decision should always be made by a qualified physician.

Discuss your symptoms with your GP.

When symptoms affect your quality of life, it is wise to discuss this with your GP.

Together you can view:

  • which symptoms are involved

  • what treatment options are available

  • which benefits are possible

  • which risks are relevant to you

Not for your neighbor.

Not for an influencer.

But for you.

My vision as a menopause coach

At Victorious Women, I believe that every woman has the right to honest information.

I am not a doctor and I do not prescribe hormones.

But I do help women understand what is happening in their bodies so that they can ask better questions and make better choices.

Whether or not you ultimately choose MHT is a personal decision.

What I find important is that that decision is based on knowledge, not on fear.

And certainly not on a social media post.

Because your health deserves more than someone's opinion on the internet.

The most important message

MHT is not a miracle cure. Nor is MHT the enemy.

For some women, it can be valuable support.

Not for others.

The best choice is always an informed choice, made together with a qualified healthcare provider.

Because control doesn't start with a pill, patch, or gel.

Taking control begins with understanding what happens in your body.
